Dong Van karst plateau is located at an average elevation of 1,000 to 1,600m above sea level, covering an area of nearly 2,356km stretching across 4 districts of Quan Ba, Yen Minh, Meo Vac and Dong Van of Ha Giang province.

This is one of the special limestone areas of the whole country, containing the typical marks of the development history of the earth's crust. Dong Van karst plateau has a unique and diverse rocky and ecological system. The system of primary flora and fauna here is still relatively intact, with a lot of wood and forest products. This is the home of 17 ethnic minorities with a exotic and unique cultural identity, shown in traditional festivals and upland markets.

With unique and outstanding values, on October 3, 2010, in Lesvos (Greece), Dong Van Karst plateau was recognized by the Global Geopark Network Council as the Global Geological park.
