The vi, giam folk songs play an important role in the spiritual and cultural life of the people of Nghe An and Ha Tinh provinces (called Nghe Tinh for short). This type of art has a long-lasting vitality, with the identities and souls of the people and as a valuable heritage in the Vietnamese cultural treasure. The vi, giam folk songs are attached to the life and customs of Nghe Tinh people, able to express the thoughts and feelings and at the same time contribute to the education of traditional moral values.

With unique and outstanding values, on November 27, 2014, Nghe Tinh folk songs were recognized by UNESCO as the intangible Cultural Heritage of humanity.
