Monkey Island (Dao Khi – Hon Lao) Nha Trang

Description

Monkey Island, or Hon Lao, lies in Nha Phu bay north of Nha Trang. Several troops of monkeys live wild across the island rather than in enclosures, and the only way in is by boat, which makes the crossing part of the outing. It is the day trip families with young children ask for most often.

Boats: 08:00 – 14:30 – check the last departure before you plan the day

Pier: Long Phu tourist pier, Highway 1A at Vinh Luong – about 18 km north of central Nha Trang

TGROUP local tips

The monkeys are wild, not kept animals. Plastic bags and visible food will be taken from your hands, and hats and sunglasses do get snatched – keep bags closed and do not feed them by hand. The last boat back is early in the afternoon, so a late-morning start leaves almost no time on the island. Allow properly for the drive: the pier is 18 km out of town, not a short hop.
