Description

My Son is a valley ringed by hills where the Cham kings built brick temples to Shiva from the 4th to the 13th century. It was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 1999, and the red-brick towers still carry the scars of the war, which makes it the most different day you can add to a central Vietnam trip. It is about 90 minutes by road from central Da Nang and about an hour from Hoi An.

The valley heats up quickly and there is very little shade after about 10:00, so arriving at the 06:00 opening is worth the early start – you avoid both the heat and the coach groups. The paths between the tower groups are earth and steps, so trainers beat sandals, and bring water and a hat. Cham dance performances are held in the theatre on site, but the times change through the year, so check at the ticket office on the day rather than relying on a schedule found online.

My Son takes half a day, so keep the rest light. On the way back you can stop at Da Nang Museum or finish the evening at Brilliant Top Bar on the river. TGROUP can arrange the return car and advise on timing free of charge.
