Why the base comes first: what the research says
Time geography
Hägerstrand (1970) argued that what a person can do in a day is bounded by the time and space consumed by movement. On this view, the number of activities a day can hold is set by the base and the travel time, not by intention.
Satisficing
Simon (1955) described decision makers as stopping their search at the first option that meets a stated threshold rather than comparing every alternative. Without a threshold set in advance, comparing hotels simply takes longer.
TGROUP observation — both propositions come from general behavioural research, not from studies of golf travel.
