Mountain Golf in Northern Vietnam: Challenging Terrain and Cool Climates

Mountain Golf in Northern Vietnam

Northern Vietnam is an attractive destination for golf enthusiasts, especially those seeking unique experiences in challenging mountain terrain. The golf courses here are surrounded by breathtaking natural landscapes with a cool year-round climate.

Let's explore some of the top mountain golf courses in Vietnam!

1. Sapa Grand Golf Course

Sapa is a highland town in Lao Cai province, Northwestern Vietnam. Approximately 320 km from Hanoi to Sapa via the Noi Bai - Lao Cai expressway.
Located at an altitude of approximately 1,500 meters above sea level, Sapa is famous for its majestic mountain scenery, terraced rice fields, and the unique culture of ethnic minorities.

Set amidst the majestic scenery of the Northwest, Sapa Grand Golf Course officially opened in July 2023, marking a new turning point for Lao Cai tourism. The golf course was designed by the legendary Greg Norman, offering an international-class golf experience.

Taking full advantage of the mountainous terrain and pristine natural landscape of the Northwest, Sapa Grand Golf Course is designed with 18 standard holes, offering visitors a unique and challenging golf experience. Sapa Grand Golf Course is an ideal destination for golfers to relax and unwind. It has a diverse system of amenities, including luxury restaurants, high-class spas, and modern entertainment areas to meet all the needs of visitors.

2. Phoenix Golf Resort (Hoa Binh)

The Phoenix Golf Resort, boasting 54 holes, stands as Vietnam's largest pure-play golf facility, setting a precedent in the country's golfing landscape. Designed by Ronald Fream, each of the three courses at Phoenix Golf Resort utilizes pronounced undulations in both fairways and greens, cleverly navigating through and around distinctive limestone cliffs. The incorporation of Japanese and Korean design elements ensures the preservation and enhancement of the surrounding environment, rendering it both protected and visually striking.
The resort features three distinct courses: Phoenix, Dragon, and Master. The Master Golf Course presents a links-style layout, characterized by open expanses, while the other two courses traverse mountainous terrain, offering a contrasting yet equally captivating golfing experience.

Hoa Binh is about 70km away from Ha Noi. Travel time is approximately 1.5 - 2 hours.

3. Tam Dao Golf & Resort

Just a short drive from Hanoi, Tam Dao Golf Club is a favorite among local and international players. Located at an altitude of 1,000 meters above sea level, this course boasts well-manicured greens, challenging bunkers, and breathtaking mountain views.

Tam Dao Golf & Resort course stretches 7200 yards, featuring 18 holes and 4 tee boxes. The course is always well-maintained, with the fairways and greens covered in Paspalum Seashore Paspalum 2000 grass and a year-round irrigation system.

The golf course offers "Night Golf" services, typically running until 10:30 PM, including the 15-minute travel time back to the Clubhouse. The resort's restaurant continuously serves players until 9:00 PM.
