According to AirlineRatings.com, a globally recognized platform for product reviews and airline rankings, the title of the world's safest airline for 2024 has been bestowed upon Air New Zealand. Interestingly, Qantas from Australia claimed the top spot last year.
Geoffrey Thomas, the Editor-in-Chief of AirlineRatings.com, commented, "The top 25 safest airlines are all industry standouts, leading in safety, innovation, and the introduction of new aircraft. Notably, the safety margin between Air New Zealand and Qantas is merely 1.5 points."
In its comprehensive evaluations, AirlineRatings.com took into account various factors, including serious incidents, recent fatal accidents, audits from regulatory authorities and the aviation industry, profitability, leading safety initiatives in the industry, expert pilot training assessments, and the average age of the fleet.
Excluded from the assessments were occurrences beyond an airline's control, such as bird strikes, injuries due to turbulence, weather-related incidents, and lightning strikes.
AirlineRatings.com specifically lauded Air New Zealand for its unwavering commitment to safety, excelling across a spectrum of safety aspects, down to the minutest details, and operating seamlessly in challenging environments.
Here is the detailed list of the top 25 safest airlines for 2024: New Zealand, Qantas, Virgin Australia, Etihad Airways, Qatar Airways, Emirates, All Nippon Airways, Finnair, Cathay Pacific Airways, Alaska Airlines, SAS, Korean Air, Singapore Airlines, EVA Air, British Airways, Turkish Airlines, TAP Air Portugal, Lufthansa/Swiss Group, KLM, Japan Airlines, Hawaiian Airlines, American Airlines, Air France, Air Canada Group, United Airlines.
Additionally, the top 20 safest low-cost airlines for 2024 were also unveiled, emphasizing "airlines with excellent safety cultures and low incident rates." In this category, Vietjet Air from Vietnam claimed the 8th position.
