The Imperial Citadel of Thang Long - Hanoi includes the inner area of the heritage at 18,395ha (including Hanoi Citadel and Archaeological Site 18 Hoang Dieu) and the buffer area of 108ha. The two areas of the core zone form a united system within the Forbidden City of Thang Long and also the center of Thang Long Imperial Citadel. The central area of Thang Long Imperial Citadel - Hanoi is the most important part of Thang Long Citadel - the capital of Dai Viet nation from the 11th to 18th centuries.

With outstanding historical and cultural criteria, in 2010, the center relic of Thang Long Imperial Citadel - Hanoi was recognized by UNESCO as a World Cultural Heritage.
