Travel guide
Ask ten golfers to name the best golf courses in Vietnam and you will get ten different lists, usually shaped by where they happened to land. After escorting private golf groups around this country for years, I have a clearer view of which courses deserve a place in a 2026 itinerary, which ones are worth paying extra for, and which ones look better in a brochure than from the first tee. This ranking is my honest attempt to settle the question, with reference green fees in US dollars so you can plan a budget, not just a wish list.
I run TGROUP Trade & Travel JSC, a licensed international tour operator based in Da Lat, and golf is most of what we do. Every green fee in this article is taken from our own published rate list at en.tgroup.vn/golf-course (18 holes, weekday, as of October 2026) and rounded down to a reference figure. Course facts come from the course pages we maintain for each club. Rankings, however, are opinion, and I explain the reasoning so you can disagree with me intelligently.
Five criteria, weighted roughly equally: design quality and day-to-day conditioning (a famous name means little if the greens are patchy in August); setting; value for the green fee against comparable courses in Thailand or Malaysia; logistics for a visiting group, meaning airport distance, hotels next door and how hard a confirmed peak-season tee time is to get; and consistency across seasons, which is where my own groups' feedback counts for more than any single visit. I did not weight prestige or tournament history.
| # | Course | Region | Designer | Green fee from | Best for |

| 3 | Ba Na Hills Golf Club | Da Nang | Luke Donald | US$135 | Mountain scenery, night golf |

Why it ranks here. Greg Norman built The Bluffs on natural sand dunes above the Ho Tram coast, and it plays like a links should: firm, fast, exposed to the wind, with elevation changes you do not expect in southern Vietnam. It is the course guests talk about on the flight home, and conditioning has been consistently excellent across my groups' visits.
Know before you go. About two and a half hours by road from Ho Chi Minh City, so stay a night at The Grand Ho Tram next door rather than day-tripping. In an afternoon sea breeze it is a serious test; mid-handicappers should take the forward tees. Best from November to April.

Why it ranks here. If The Bluffs is the purist's choice, KN Golf Links is the pragmatist's: another Norman links over the Bai Dai dunes, at roughly two thirds of the top-ranked course's green fee. Honest routing, memorable par threes, and practice facilities among the best in the country. For value in the top five, nothing comes close.
Know before you go. Ten minutes from Cam Ranh International Airport and 30 to 40 minutes from central Nha Trang: the easiest first-morning round in Vietnam after an overnight flight. The heaviest rain falls in October and November.

Why it ranks here. Luke Donald's first design sits in the foothills of the Ba Na mountains: forested slopes, a river valley, cooler afternoon air than the coast. It is a thinking golfer's course with real strategy off the tee, the clubhouse service is the most polished in central Vietnam, and the floodlit holes suit groups who land at midday and want to play that evening.
Know before you go. About 45 minutes from Da Nang airport, in the valley below the Ba Na Hills theme park, not up the cable car. From the back markers it is extremely long, so choose tees carefully. Central Vietnam's rainy season (roughly September to December) applies here as everywhere in the region.

Why it ranks here. On pure quality Hoiana Shores could be number one: Robert Trent Jones Jr used the dunes south of Hoi An to build a links with wide fairways, superb green complexes and views of the Cham Islands, and the conditioning is the best I have seen in Vietnam. It drops to fourth only on price. At roughly US$270 it costs almost twice the next course in this ranking, and that money buys two rounds elsewhere.
Know before you go. Around 45 minutes from Da Nang airport, 20 from Hoi An old town. Play it in the morning before the sea breeze builds, and ask about stay-and-play rates at the Hoiana resort if you are staying two nights.

Why it ranks here. Legend Danang (long known as Danang Golf Club) gives you two very different courses on one site: Greg Norman's original Dunes layout, a rugged seaside design that regularly tops regional lists, and the newer, more forgiving Nicklaus course. Having both 15 minutes from the airport is the main reason Da Nang is Vietnam's busiest golf destination.
Know before you go. Prioritise the Dunes course. It fills with tour groups in the dry season (February to August), so a confirmed morning tee time matters more here than almost anywhere in the country.

Why it ranks here. Nick Faldo's course at Laguna Lang Co is the most varied walk in Vietnam: rice fields and jungle, then rocky outcrops, then the beach. Backed by the Banyan Tree and Angsana resorts, it is the course I recommend most often to couples and families where only some of the party play. The green fee is modest for what you get.
Know before you go. About an hour north of Da Nang airport through the Hai Van tunnel, so it works best as a two-night resort stay. Hue's imperial sites are 45 minutes further on.

Why it ranks here. Colin Montgomerie's course is the quiet achiever of the Da Nang coast: sandy soil that drains fast after rain, generous fairways, and rounds well under four and a half hours even in high season. It lacks the drama of The Bluffs or Hoiana, but as a reliable second or third round in central Vietnam it is hard to fault.
Know before you go. Roughly 20 minutes from both Da Nang airport and Hoi An, with on-site villas good enough to base a whole golf stay around.

Why it ranks here. I will declare an interest: TGROUP's head office is in Da Lat and this is my home course. It is the oldest course in Vietnam, laid out in the 1920s above Xuan Huong Lake, and at 1,500 metres the climate is spring-like year round. Pines, elevation changes and bent-grass greens make it unlike anything else in the country, and it is the least expensive course in this ranking.
Know before you go. Lien Khuong airport is 45 minutes away. Mornings can be misty from June to September, so tee off after 8 am. Pair it with SAM Tuyen Lam and The Dalat at 1200 for a three-round highland trip.

Why it ranks here. Kings Island is northern Vietnam's classic golf day out: a boat across Dong Mo Lake with the Ba Vi mountains behind, then the Nicklaus-designed Kings Course, the pick of the three layouts, with water on most holes and a strong finishing stretch. It is how I introduce first-time visitors to Hanoi golf.
Know before you go. About an hour west of central Hanoi. Hanoi has a real winter: January and February can be grey and 12 to 15 degrees, so October to December and March to April are the sweet spots.
Why it ranks here. Sky Lake's Lake Course is the toughest test in this ranking: over 7,500 yards from the tips, limestone hills on one side, Van Son Lake on the other, tournament-grade conditioning and one of the grandest clubhouses in Vietnam. It sits tenth only because its difficulty and price make it a specialist's course rather than everyone's.
Know before you go. Around an hour southwest of Hanoi. The sister Sky Course is shorter, cheaper (from about US$120) and kinder to mid-handicappers; many of my groups play one of each. Weekends book out weeks ahead.

Why it ranks here. The golf is good rather than great: an IMG-designed par 71 through hills and coastline on Hon Tre Island. What lifts it into the top twelve is the package: you stay at the Vinpearl resort on the same island, cross by cable car or speedboat, and non-golfers have a beach, pools and a theme park within walking distance. For a family golf holiday it is the most complete single-site option in Vietnam.
Know before you go. Combine it with KN Golf Links and Diamond Bay (from about US$100) for a three-course Nha Trang itinerary, all within an hour of each other.

Why it ranks here. Quy Nhon is the destination most visiting golfers have never heard of, which is its appeal. The Nicklaus Design links runs over dunes above Nhon Ly beach with ocean views on most holes and rarely more than a handful of groups out. Conditioning can be a notch below Da Nang, which keeps it at twelfth, but the experience per dollar is outstanding.
Know before you go. Phu Cat airport is about 20 minutes away. Two nights at the FLC resort with two rounds, then on to Nha Trang or Da Nang, is the natural plan.
Honourable mentions. Tan Son Nhat Golf Course in Ho Chi Minh City (Nelson & Haworth, from about US$100) is the most convenient course in the country, beside the international airport and floodlit for evening play, but it is a city course rather than a destination. Vinpearl Golf Phu Quoc (IMG, from about US$80) is the pick for a beach-and-golf week on the island. Vinpearl Golf Nam Hoi An (from about US$85) is a sensible budget alternative to Hoiana Shores a few kilometres down the same coast. Van Tri Golf Club in Hanoi is superbly kept but mainly a members' club with a visitor rate above US$215.
The Bluffs and Hoiana Shores, because there is nothing comparable anywhere else in Vietnam and you will remember the round.
A confirmed morning tee time at Legend Danang in the dry season, when afternoon slots mean five-hour rounds behind large groups.
Ba Na Hills on an evening arrival day, when the floodlit holes turn a dead travel afternoon into nine holes of golf.
Play KN Golf Links instead of a second round at Hoiana; it is a Norman links at a third of the price.
Choose Sky Lake's Sky Course over the Lake Course unless you drive it 260 metres and enjoy suffering.
Build a Da Lat leg: three rounds at Palace, SAM Tuyen Lam and The Dalat at 1200 cost less than two rounds on the Da Nang coast.
Weekday green fees at the courses above run from about US$80 to US$270, with most of the top twelve between US$95 and US$155. Weekend and holiday rates are typically 20 to 40 percent higher, and the Lunar New Year week (late January or February) is the most expensive and crowded period of the year. The published green fee normally includes a caddie, compulsory at almost every course, and often a shared buggy; it does not include the caddie tip (budget US$10 to US$15 per round), club rental or transfers.
For a three-round trip on this list, a realistic golf-only budget is US$350 to US$500 per person before hotels and ground transport. I have broken down the full cost structure, course by course and city by city, in our Vietnam golf green fees 2026 guide, and the regional guides for Da Nang, Hanoi, Ho Chi Minh City and Da Lat go deeper on each destination.
With one week, fly into Da Nang and out of Cam Ranh. Day one, nine floodlit holes at Ba Na Hills on arrival. Day two, the Dunes course at Legend Danang. Day three, Hoiana Shores, then an afternoon in Hoi An old town. Day four, Montgomerie Links and a flight south to Nha Trang. Day five, KN Golf Links. Day six, Vinpearl Golf Nha Trang with the family on the island. Day seven, depart from Cam Ranh, ten minutes from your last round. Every transfer except the Da Nang to Nha Trang leg is under an hour; the detail is on our Da Nang golf tour and Nha Trang golf tour pages. For a north-to-south version that adds Hanoi and Da Lat, start from our Vietnam golf tour hub.
A word on how we work, because it affects which of these courses you will actually get to play. TGROUP only runs private golf trips: your own group of two to twelve, your own vehicle and driver, tee times confirmed in writing before you pay, and a bilingual coordinator from airport to airport. We do not sell seats on joined tours.
The difference shows at Hoiana Shores, Legend Danang and Sky Lake, where the best tee times go to whoever booked first with a deposit. A joined tour plays when the bus arrives; a private group plays when it suits you. A private trip for four typically costs 10 to 20 percent more than the joined-tour equivalent, not more, and most of our guests decide the morning tee times and the car alone are worth it.
When you pay a deposit for tee times at courses like these, you should know who is holding your money. Our credentials are public and verifiable.
Full details on our About us page.
Which is the number one golf course in Vietnam?
In my ranking, The Bluffs Ho Tram Strip, for its Greg Norman links design on natural dunes and its consistently excellent conditioning. Hoiana Shores is its equal on quality but costs almost twice as much.
What is the best golf destination in Vietnam for a first trip?
Da Nang and Hoi An. Within 45 minutes of one airport you have Legend Danang, Ba Na Hills, Montgomerie Links and Hoiana Shores, plus beach resorts and a UNESCO old town for the non-golfers.
How much are green fees at the top courses in Vietnam?
Reference weekday rates in October 2026 run from about US$80 at Dalat Palace to about US$270 at Hoiana Shores, with most top courses between US$95 and US$155. Weekends cost more, and rates move with the season and exchange rate, so ask us for a quote on your dates.
Is a caddie compulsory in Vietnam?
At almost every course on this list, yes, and the caddie fee is normally built into the green fee. Caddies are well trained and a tip of US$10 to US$15 per round is customary.
When is the best time of year to play golf in Vietnam?
It depends on region. The south (Ho Tram, Ho Chi Minh City) is best from November to April; central Vietnam (Da Nang, Hoi An, Hue) from February to August; Hanoi in October to December and March to April; Nha Trang most of the year outside October and November; and Da Lat year round.
Can I play these courses without booking through a tour operator?
Yes, most accept direct visitor bookings. Booking through us adds confirmed tee times at the busy courses, private transfers between courses that are often an hour apart, and one point of contact if a flight is late or the weather turns.
Send us your dates, group size and handicaps. We will come back with confirmed tee times, a private car and a quote in US dollars, usually within one business day.
