Hai Phong & Ha Long Golf Courses 2026: Guide, Green Fees & Bay Combo

Hai Phong & Ha Long Golf Courses 2026: Guide, Green Fees & Bay Combo

Hai Phong and Ha Long golf courses are the part of northern Vietnam most visiting golfers have never heard of, and the part I most enjoy sending small groups to. Within a ninety-minute drive you have six courses: two above Ha Long Bay in Quang Ninh and four around Hai Phong city, including a 36-hole IMG layout on an island, a 27-hole Korean-managed resort and a true seafront links. Add an overnight cruise on the bay, and you have a golf trip that non-golfing partners actually look forward to. This guide covers every course, reference green fees, drive times from the three airports, the right months to come and a four-day itinerary that combines golf with the bay.

I run TGROUP Trade & Travel JSC, a licensed Vietnamese international tour operator (licence No. 68-025/2019/TCDL-GP LHQT) that books golf for Korean and English-speaking private groups across the country. The prices below are reference rates read from our own booking pages on en.tgroup.vn in October 2026 for 18 holes on a weekday, rounded down slightly; course facts come from the course pages and my own rounds. Drive times are my working estimates, not timetables.

Hai Phong & Ha Long golf courses at a glance

Six venues, two provinces, one road network. Hai Phong is Vietnam’s third-largest city with its own international airport (Cat Bi, HPH); Ha Long is the tourist capital of Quang Ninh, about an hour east over the Bach Dang bridge. Treat them as one golf region. The table links to each course page, where you can see the current rate for your date before you ask us for a quote.

The two Ha Long courses: play above the bay

FLC Ha Long Bay Golf Club

This is the course I put first for anyone whose trip is built around Ha Long Bay. Schmidt-Curley laid out 18 holes on a ridge above the city, so the limestone islands sit in your eyeline on most of the back nine and on several tee shots on the front. It is a par 71 of 6,900 yards from the back markers, with constant elevation change and a lot of sand: the fairways are generous but the bunkering punishes a lazy approach. The clubhouse is large and modern, there is a driving range, and the night-golf facility means a late arrival from Hanoi can still get nine holes in. The FLC Grand Ha Long hotel is on the same hill, which is why the Stay & Play package (from US$150 per person per night with a round) is our most requested product in the area.

My verdict: play it in the late afternoon if you can. The light on the bay from the hilltop holes is the photograph your group will keep, and the wind usually settles. Do not expect a flat walk; take the cart.

Tuan Chau Golf Resort

Tuan Chau is the island where most overnight cruises depart, connected to Ha Long city by a causeway. The 18 holes run to 7,338 yards, which makes it the longest course in this guide, and the design is open and exposed: every hole faces the sea, and when the wind is up club selection becomes the whole game. The practice facilities are the most complete in the north (driving range, approach and putting ranges), and the clubhouse has massage rooms, which matters after a long day. Reference rate from US$90.

My verdict: this is the natural pairing with a cruise. Board the boat at the marina around midday, come back the next morning, and play Tuan Chau in the afternoon without moving your luggage far. Shorter hitters should move up a tee; the course is honest but long.

The four Hai Phong golf courses

Vinpearl Golf Hai Phong (Vu Yen Island)

The biggest facility in the region and the easiest logistics: 36 holes designed by IMG on Vu Yen Island, about twenty minutes from Cat Bi airport and ten from the Vinpearl Hotel Rivera. The Lakeside course is resort-style with interconnected lakes on twelve holes; the Marshland course uses the island’s open wetlands and plays firmer and windier. The championship routing is a par 72 of 6,713 yards with narrow fairways and well-kept greens. From US$90 for 18 holes, and the Vinpearl Rivera Stay & Play package is from US$110 per person per night with golf.

My verdict: the best base for a group with mixed abilities or non-golfers. Two very different courses on one site means a 36-hole day without a transfer, and the hotel is in the city, so partners have restaurants and the old French quarter within reach.

Song Gia (Sono Felice Hai Phong) Golf Resort

Song Gia sits where the Gia and Moc rivers meet in Thuy Nguyen district, north of the city. It is Korean-managed under the Sono group, which shows in the service style, the Korean menu and the long-stay villas and serviced residences on site. The golf is 27 holes: an 18-hole Membership course and a 9-hole Executive loop, so a group can play 18 in the morning and a relaxed nine after lunch. Facilities include a pool, gym and massage. Reference rate from US$100.

My verdict: if your group is Korean or wants a self-contained resort with golf outside the door for three or four nights, this is the one. For a single visit on a touring itinerary I would still choose Vinpearl or the Do Son courses for the scenery.

Dragon Golf Links (Do Son)

Dragon Golf Links is part of the Dragon Ocean complex on reclaimed land at Do Son, about 25 minutes from Cat Bi. It is the one genuine seafront links in the north: 27 holes, almost no trees, large sculpted bunkers and the Gulf of Tonkin on three sides. On a calm day it is a scoring course; with an onshore wind it is the hardest round in this guide. The infrastructure is new and the clubhouse is striking. Reference rate from US$70, which makes it the best value here by some distance.

My verdict: play it, but check the wind forecast and book the earliest tee time you can in summer, because there is no shade. Links purists will enjoy it more than players who like framing trees.

BRG Ruby Tree Golf Resort (Do Son)

A few minutes from Dragon, BRG Ruby Tree is the older, gentler neighbour: an 18-hole par 72 by Pacific Coast Design, 6,317 metres, formerly known as Do Son Seaside Golf. Four tee options, varied green sizes and streams through the property make it a pleasant walk rather than a test. Vietnam Golf Magazine readers voted it “Most Prospective Golf Course in Vietnam” in 2009, and it has matured nicely since. Reference rate from US$70.

My verdict: the right second round for a Do Son day. Dragon in the morning for the challenge, Ruby Tree in the afternoon to enjoy yourself and keep the scorecard respectable.

A 4-day Hai Phong & Ha Long golf itinerary with a bay cruise

This is the routing we run most often for private groups of four to eight. It gives three rounds, one night on the bay and no backtracking.

Day
1
Arrive Cat Bi, 18 holes at Vinpearl Golf Hai Phong
Private transfer from the airport (about 20 minutes). Afternoon round on the Lakeside course, check in at Vinpearl Hotel Rivera. Dinner in the city.
Day
2
Do Son double, then drive to Ha Long
Morning at Dragon Golf Links, lunch at the club, optional nine at BRG Ruby Tree. Late-afternoon drive to Ha Long (about an hour). Overnight at the FLC Grand Ha Long.
Day
3
FLC Ha Long Bay in the morning, cruise at midday
Early tee time on the hilltop course, then transfer to Tuan Chau marina for a one-night cruise through the bay: kayaking, cave visit, dinner on board. Non-golfers can join from Day 2 evening.
Day
4
Tuan Chau Golf Resort, then onward
Cruise returns late morning. Lunch, then an afternoon round at Tuan Chau, which is on the same island as the marina. Evening transfer to Hanoi (about 2.5 hours) or back to Cat Bi.

If you only have two days, stay in Hai Phong, play Vinpearl and Dragon, and take a day cruise from Tuan Chau on the way out. If you have five, add Song Gia and a second night on the bay. For a wider northern loop, our Hanoi golf hub covers Kings Island, Sky Lake and Long Bien, all reachable in two to three hours.

Getting there: airports and drive times

Cat Bi International (HPH), Hai Phong
The airport to use. Twenty minutes to Vinpearl, about 25 to Do Son and 35 to Song Gia; roughly 75 minutes to the Ha Long courses. Direct flights from Ho Chi Minh City, Da Nang and a limited number of regional cities; check current international schedules for your origin.
Van Don International (VDO), Quang Ninh
East of Ha Long, about an hour from FLC Ha Long and Tuan Chau. Useful when a charter or seasonal international flight lands there; domestic options are thin.
Noi Bai (HAN), Hanoi
Most long-haul visitors arrive here. The Hanoi–Hai Phong expressway makes Hai Phong about two hours by car and Ha Long about two and a half. We meet you at arrivals and drive straight to the first course or hotel.
Between the courses
Hai Phong city to Ha Long is about an hour. Do Son to Vu Yen Island is 30 to 40 minutes. A private car with a driver who knows the club gates saves real time; the ride-hailing apps do not reach the golf resorts reliably.

When to play golf in Hai Phong and Ha Long

The north has four seasons, unlike Da Nang or Saigon, and the bay weather matters as much as the golf weather. My month-by-month view for the whole country is in Vietnam Golf Season 2026; the short version for this region:

October to December
Dry, clear, 18–27°C. The best golf and the best bay visibility of the year. Book four to six weeks ahead.
January to February
Cool and often grey with fine drizzle, 12–18°C. Playable with a windproof layer; the bay can be misty, which some guests love and some do not.
March to May
Warming and humid, 20–30°C. March and April are very good; by late May the heat starts to bite on the links courses.
June to September
Hot, 30°C plus, with heavy showers and typhoon risk, mainly July to September. Early tee times only, and build a weather day into any cruise plan.

What a green fee in Hai Phong and Ha Long includes

Included in the rates above
✓ Green fee for 18 holes
✓ Caddie fee
✓ Shared golf cart
✓ Locker and shower facilities
Paid separately
✗ Caddie tip, about US$15 per 18 holes, in cash
✗ Club and shoe rental
✗ Weekend and public-holiday surcharges
✗ Food, drinks and anything in the pro shop

Two practical notes. First, some clubs confirm the final rate only about 30 days before play; until then we quote an indicative price and tell you so. Second, rounds stopped by the guest in normal weather are not refunded by the courses, so decide on heat and wind before you tee off. A full national comparison is in Vietnam Golf Green Fees 2026: Prices by City; this region is cheaper than Da Nang and Hanoi for comparable quality, and the Do Son pair is among the lowest green fees of any seaside golf in the country.

Private group or joined tour?

TGROUP does not run joined groups, and this region is a good illustration of why. Six courses, two provinces, a cruise marina with fixed boarding times and a two-hour expressway from Hanoi: a shared bus serving twenty strangers cannot make that work without someone waiting. Our format is a private car for your group only, tee times confirmed in writing before you fly, and a bilingual coordinator (Korean or English with Vietnamese) who handles the club desks, the caddie master and the cruise pier.

Expect to pay roughly 10 to 20 percent more than a joined tour for the same courses and hotels, and no more than that. For a family, a group of friends or a company foursome, the time you keep is worth more than the difference.

Hai Phong & Ha Long golf: frequently asked questions

How many golf courses are there in Hai Phong and Ha Long?
Six that we book regularly: FLC Ha Long Bay and Tuan Chau in Ha Long; Vinpearl Golf Hai Phong, Song Gia (Sono Felice), Dragon Golf Links and BRG Ruby Tree in Hai Phong. Between them they offer 144 holes, including two 27-hole and one 36-hole facility.

Which airport should I fly into for golf in Ha Long?
Cat Bi in Hai Phong for most itineraries: it is about 75 minutes from the Ha Long courses and 20 to 35 minutes from the Hai Phong ones. Van Don is closer to Ha Long but has few flights. From Hanoi’s Noi Bai, allow two to two and a half hours by private car.

Can I combine a Ha Long Bay cruise with golf?
Yes, and it is the reason to come here rather than elsewhere in the north. Overnight cruises board at Tuan Chau marina around midday and return the next morning, which fits a morning round at FLC Ha Long before boarding and an afternoon round at Tuan Chau after. We book both together so the timings match.

What do green fees cost in Hai Phong and Ha Long?
Reference rates for 18 weekday holes run from about US$70 at Dragon Golf Links and BRG Ruby Tree to about US$105 at FLC Ha Long Bay, including caddie and shared cart. Weekends cost more, and caddie tips of roughly US$15 per round are extra. Rates move with season and exchange rate, so ask us for a confirmed quote.

When is the best time to play golf in Ha Long?
October to December for dry, clear weather and the best views of the bay; March and April as a second choice. January and February are cool and misty but playable. Avoid building a cruise-dependent trip around July to September because of typhoon risk.

Is there night golf in Ha Long?
FLC Ha Long Bay Golf Club lists a night-golf facility, which is useful after a late drive from Hanoi. Availability depends on the season and the club’s schedule, so we confirm it at booking rather than promise it.

Is this region suitable for a group with non-golfers?
More than any other golf region in the north. Ha Long Bay, the cruise, the island beaches and Hai Phong’s French-era centre keep partners occupied, and Vinpearl Rivera and FLC Grand Ha Long both have pools and spas within minutes of the first tee.

How far ahead should I book?
Two to four weeks is usually enough outside peak season. For October to December, Korean holiday periods and any trip tied to a specific cruise departure, give us six weeks so we can hold the tee times and cabins together.
