Travel guide
When is the best time to play golf in Vietnam? The honest answer is: it depends on which coast you land on. Vietnam is 1,650 km long, and the Vietnam golf season runs on three different clocks. In November, Hanoi is crisp and perfect while Da Nang is in its wettest week of the year and Saigon is just drying out. In July, Da Nang is sunny and dry while Hanoi is at 36°C and Phu Quoc is under monsoon rain. If you only remember one thing from this guide, remember that you can play good golf in Vietnam in every month of the year, as long as you choose the region for the month, not the other way round.
I run TGROUP Trade & Travel, a licensed international tour operator in Vietnam, and we have been putting Korean and international golfers on tee boxes from Ha Long to Phu Quoc since 2019. The month-by-month notes below come from three places: long-term climate averages published by public sources (the Vietnam National Centre for Hydro-Meteorological Forecasting and weather-history sites such as WeatherSpark), the rain-check and rebooking records of our own operations desk, and what our caddie partners and course managers tell us each season. Green fees are the reference rates listed on our site in October 2026, rounded down to the nearest US$5; they move with season and exchange rate, so please message us for a dated quote.
Reference rates as of October 2026, 18 holes weekday, vary by season and exchange rate.
The North (Hanoi, Ha Long, Hai Phong, down to Thanh Hoa) has four real seasons. Winter is cool, grey and sometimes drizzly; summer is hot and stormy; spring and autumn are lovely. The Central coast (Hue, Da Nang, Hoi An, Quy Nhon, Nha Trang) runs on a monsoon that arrives late: it is dry from roughly February to August and wet from September or October to December, with the heaviest rain and the typhoon risk in October and November. The South (Ho Chi Minh City, Dong Nai, Ho Tram, Mui Ne, Phu Quoc) is tropical all year, with a dry season from around November or December to April and a rainy season from May to October where it rains hard for an hour in the afternoon and is dry again by dinner. Sitting above all of this is Da Lat at 1,500 m, where it is 15–24°C in every month and the only question is whether the afternoon shower arrives before or after your round.
Once you see Vietnam this way, planning is simple. Pick the month you can travel, read the table below, and let the region follow.

Three dots means I would book it without hesitation. Two dots means good golf with a plan B (an early tee time, a rain policy, a flexible day). One dot means I would steer you to another region unless you have a specific reason to be there.
| Month | North Hanoi, Ha Long | Central coast Hue, Da Nang, Hoi An | South & islands Saigon, Ho Tram, Phu Quoc | Da Lat highlands | My pick and why |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| January | ●● | ●● | ●●● | ●●● | Saigon, Ho Tram or Phu Quoc: dry, 25–32°C, no rain days lost. Hanoi can drop to 10–15°C with grey skies. Tet (Lunar New Year) falls in late January or February: courses stay open but transfers and hotels are busy. |
| February | ●● | ●●● | ●●● | ●●● | The Central coast dries out and the whole country becomes playable. Hanoi has its drizzle season (mua phun), so pack a light rain jacket. |
| March | ●●● | ●●● | ●●● | ●●● | In my view the best single month for a north-to-south itinerary. Every region works, and the Central coast is dry, warm and not yet hot. |
| April | ●●● | ●●● | ●●● | ●●● | Still excellent everywhere. Hanoi warms to 25–30°C, Saigon reaches its hottest (33–36°C) so tee off early in the south. |
| May | ●● | ●●● | ●● | ●● | Heat arrives in the north, afternoon rain starts in the south and Da Lat. Da Nang and Nha Trang are dry and sunny. |
| June | ●● | ●●● | ●● | ●● | Central coast at its best for beach-plus-golf. Hanoi is 33–37°C with thunderstorms: play at 6 am or play Da Lat. |
| July | ●● | ●●● | ●● | ●● | Same pattern. Phu Quoc has its roughest seas and heaviest rain from June to August. Korean and Japanese summer holidays push Da Nang tee sheets, so book early. |
| August | ●● | ●●● | ●● | ●● | Last fully dry month on the Central coast. Southern rain is short and afternoon-only; morning rounds are rarely lost. |
| September | ●●● | ●● | ●● | ●● | The north turns pleasant (26–30°C, drier). Central coast rain begins late in the month; typhoon watch starts. |
| October | ●●● | ● | ●● | ●● | Hanoi and Ha Long are at their best: clear, dry, 22–28°C. Da Nang and Hue are in the wettest stretch of the year. South is drying out towards month-end. |
| November | ●●● | ● | ●●● | ●●● | North still excellent, south dry again, Da Lat dry and cool. Central coast remains wet, with flood risk in Hue and Hoi An some years. |
| December | ●● | ●● | ●●● | ●●● | Peak season in the south and on Phu Quoc. Hanoi turns cool (15–20°C) but often dry and pleasant in the first half. Da Nang rain eases towards the end of the month. |
Two caveats. These are typical patterns, not guarantees: a dry November in Da Nang and a wet February in Saigon both happen. And none of this is about whether courses are open. Vietnamese courses do not close for a season; they close for lightning, flooded fairways and public holidays, and that is why the rain-check policy of each course matters more than the long-term average.
Golfers who know Vietnam only from Da Nang are surprised by how northern the north feels. Hanoi has a genuine winter: December to February averages 15–20°C, dips below 10°C in cold snaps, and February to early March brings the fine drizzle that soaks a glove without ever showing on a radar. Summer, from late May to August, is the opposite problem: 33–37°C with high humidity and afternoon thunderstorms. The two shoulders are the prize. October and November are, for me, the best golf weather in the whole country: clear, dry, 22–28°C, and the courses west of Hanoi look their best. March and April are nearly as good.
What this means for a plan: a Hanoi golf trip in October, a Ha Long Bay cruise in between, and the Ha Long or Hai Phong courses on the way back is a trip I recommend to anyone with a week in autumn. A northern trip in July is something I will do if you insist, but we will set 6 am tee times and a shaded lunch, and I will suggest Da Lat for half of it instead.

Ha Long, Hai Phong and the northern coast follow Hanoi’s calendar, with one difference: the sea breeze takes the edge off summer heat, and the typhoon season (July to September) can close a coastal course for a day or two. For a Ha Long golf trip in summer we always keep one flexible day. More on each course is in our Ha Long golf hub and Hanoi golf hub.
This is the region most international golfers come for, and it is also the region where getting the month wrong hurts the most. The Central coast monsoon is the reverse of the south: it is dry from February to August and wet from late September to December, with October and November carrying roughly half the year’s rain. These are also the typhoon months. A typhoon does not just mean one washed-out round; it can mean a closed course for two or three days while fairways drain, flooded roads between Hoi An and Hue, and flight delays at Da Nang.
From February to April the weather is close to ideal: 24–30°C, dry, with a breeze off the sea that makes Laguna Golf Lang Co and Hoiana Shores play the way their designers meant. June to August is hotter (33–36°C) but reliably dry, which is why it is peak season for Korean and Japanese golfers. If you travel in summer, book Da Nang tee times six to eight weeks ahead and take the first tee of the day; by 1 pm the heat is real. January is a coin toss: often fine, sometimes a grey week.

Nha Trang and Cam Ranh are the driest coast in Vietnam, which is why KN Golf Links can sell golf in months when Da Nang cannot. The rainy season here is short and late: mostly October to December, with November the wettest month. From January to August it is sunny and warm (27–33°C), with a dry wind in summer that makes the links holes at KN play firm and fast. Quy Nhon, 220 km north, follows a similar pattern with slightly more rain in the autumn. If a client has to travel in May or June and wants beach plus golf, this is where I send them.

Da Lat is Vietnam’s safety valve. At 1,500 m the daily range is 15–24°C in every month; you will play in a sweater at 7 am and a polo by 10. The dry season is November to April, when the highlands are as reliable as anywhere in Asia. From May to October there is an afternoon shower most days, typically between 2 and 5 pm; mornings are usually fine, and the rain is light enough that Dalat Palace rarely closes. Da Lat is a 45-minute flight from Ho Chi Minh City and a 3-hour drive from Nha Trang, so it pairs naturally with either. When a Saigon trip lands in the wet season, two Da Lat days are my standard fix.

The south is tropical and binary. December to April is the dry season: no rain for weeks, 25–35°C, and the best golf weather Saigon offers; April is the hottest month, so we tee off by 7 am. May to October is the rainy season, but it is not a European kind of rain. It is a hard downpour of 45 to 90 minutes, usually between 2 and 6 pm, after which the course is playable again. In our experience, morning rounds in Saigon from May to October are rarely lost to weather; afternoon rounds are a different story, and we simply do not book them in that period.

Two southern spots behave differently. Mui Ne and Phan Thiet are the driest place in southern Vietnam, with annual rainfall well below Saigon’s, so Sea Links and NovaWorld Phan Thiet (PGA Ocean) are playable deep into the rainy season. Ho Tram on the coast catches the full sea wind, which is what makes The Bluffs such a serious test in the dry months, and why I prefer it from December to March.

Phu Quoc has the clearest season of all: November to April is dry, calm and sunny, with December to March the sweet spot. May to October is the southwest monsoon; June to August bring the heaviest rain and rough seas, and many beach resorts lower their rates. Vinpearl Golf Phu Quoc stays open all year and mornings in the rainy season are often fine, but I would not fly a group there for golf in July. For a December golf-and-family week, few places in Asia match it.

Weather is the one thing we cannot sell you, so we manage around it. Every course we book has a written rain-check policy, and we read it before we confirm your tee time: most Vietnamese courses refund or re-book the unplayed holes if the course closes for lightning or flooding, but policies differ on partial rounds (9 holes played is often charged as 9), on whether the caddie fee is refundable, and on how long a rain check stays valid. On the Central coast in autumn we do not book back-to-back courses on consecutive days without a buffer, and we hold a tentative alternative in Nha Trang or Da Lat for groups travelling in late October. In the south in the rainy season every round is a morning round. For a group flying from Korea or Europe for five rounds, that kind of planning is worth far more than a cheaper green fee.

TGROUP does not run joined or mass-market golf tours. We organise private golf trips for families, friends and small groups: your own vehicle and driver, tee times confirmed to you in writing by the course, a bilingual coordinator (Korean, English, Vietnamese) on call, and an itinerary built around your dates rather than a fixed departure. In practice a private trip costs about 10 to 20 percent more than a comparable joined tour, not more, because the main costs, green fees and hotels, are the same. The difference shows in the weeks like this one: when a typhoon changes the forecast, a private group can move a round to another course or another region the same evening. A joined group plays what is on the sheet.
If you tell us your travel month first, we will tell you honestly which region to choose, and we will say so if your dates and your preferred destination do not match.
Booking a golf trip across three climate zones means trusting someone to move money, tee times and hotel nights around on your behalf. These are the credentials that let you do that with confidence.

What is the best month to play golf in Vietnam overall?
March, followed closely by April. They are the only months when every region, from Hanoi to Phu Quoc, is dry and comfortable at the same time. If you can only travel in one other month, choose November for the north and south, or June for the Central coast.
Is the rainy season a bad time to play golf in Vietnam?
Not necessarily. In the south and Da Lat, rainy-season rain is a short afternoon downpour, and morning rounds are rarely lost. The exception is the Central coast in October and November, where rain can last for days and typhoons can close courses; I would avoid Da Nang and Hue then and play Nha Trang, Hanoi or the south instead.
Do golf courses in Vietnam close in winter?
No. Vietnamese courses are open all year. Hanoi courses play through a cool, sometimes drizzly winter (10 to 20 degrees), and the south and Central coast have no winter at all. Closures are for lightning, flooding and a few public holidays, not seasons.
When is typhoon season in Vietnam?
Typhoons can affect the northern coast from July to September and the Central coast from September to November, with October and November the highest risk around Hue, Da Nang and Hoi An. The south and Phu Quoc are rarely hit directly. We watch the forecast ten days out and will tell you if a change of region makes sense.
How hot does it get, and when should I tee off?
Hanoi reaches 33 to 37 degrees from June to August, Saigon 33 to 36 degrees in April, and Da Nang 33 to 36 degrees from June to August. In those months we book the first tee times of the day, usually 6 to 7 am, and finish before lunch. Tan Son Nhat in Saigon also offers floodlit night golf.
Is green fee pricing seasonal in Vietnam?
Partly. Most courses have a single weekday and weekend rate across the year, but several Central coast and Phu Quoc courses publish lower rates in their wet months and promotional stay-and-play packages from May to September. The reference rates in this article are weekday 18-hole prices as listed on our site in October 2026, rounded down; ask us for a dated quote.
Which region is best for a golf trip with non-golfers?
For the dry months of December to March, Phu Quoc, Ho Tram or Hoi An: beach, resort and golf in one place. In summer, Da Nang and Hoi An. In the northern autumn, Hanoi plus a Ha Long Bay cruise. Da Lat works in any month for families who prefer cool weather to beaches.
A confirmed tee time, a dated green-fee quote and a weather-aware itinerary for your group, usually within one working day.
