Vietnam Golf Dress Code and Course Etiquette: What to Wear and What to Expect

Vietnam golf dress code and course etiquette

Before your first round here, two questions come up: what am I allowed to wear, and what will the caddie expect? The short answer — a collared shirt, tailored shorts or trousers and soft-spike shoes will get you onto any course in the country. Below is the full Vietnam golf dress code, the etiquette that matters locally, and a green fee table updated on 11 August 2026 ranging from $66.56 to $257.64 for 18 holes.

1The Vietnam golf dress code in one paragraph

Almost every club in Vietnam applies the same baseline: a collared shirt, tailored shorts or trousers, and soft-spike golf shoes. Shirts should be tucked in. Ladies may wear a sleeveless top provided it has a collar, and skorts are accepted at every course we book. This is TGROUP guidance based on how our groups are received day to day — individual clubs may be stricter, so confirm with us when you book.

✓ Accepted

Collared polo, mock neck with collar, tailored shorts (knee length), golf trousers, skort, golf shoes with soft spikes, cap or visor.

✗ Usually refused

T-shirts without a collar, tank tops, denim, cargo shorts, swim shorts, sandals, running shoes with metal spikes, football jerseys.

2Clubhouse, changing rooms and what to leave behind

Most clubhouses have full changing facilities, so you can arrive in normal clothes and change on site. A few points that catch first-time visitors:

  • Clubhouse restaurants are smart casual — you can keep your golf outfit on, but change out of golf shoes.
  • Locker and shower use is normally included with the green fee. Towels are provided.
  • Rental clubs and shoes are available at most courses. Tell us your height and hand preference and we confirm availability before you land.
  • Rangefinders are allowed. Personal caddies are not — every course assigns its own.
3Course etiquette that actually matters in Vietnam

Pace of play is the one thing marshals watch closely, because tee sheets are tight in high season.

  • Keep to roughly 4 hours 30 minutes for 18 holes in a four-ball. Ready golf is welcome.
  • Your caddie will read putts, clean clubs and forecaddie. Listening to the line saves strokes — local grain is stronger than most visitors expect.
  • Repair pitch marks and rake bunkers; caddies do most of it but the courtesy is noticed.
  • Mobile phones on silent. Business calls are normal in Vietnam, but step away from the tee box.
  • Cart paths only after heavy rain — the wet season runs roughly May to October in the south and September to December in the centre.

Caddie gratuities are customary and voluntary. TGROUP guidance for our clients is the range we advise groups to budget for; we confirm the current norm for each course at booking.

7Frequently asked questions

Can I play in shorts in Vietnam?

Yes. Tailored golf shorts are accepted at every course we book, for men and women. Cargo shorts and denim shorts are not.

Do I need to bring my own clubs?

No. Rental sets are available at most courses. Rental rates differ by club, so we quote them with your booking rather than guess here.

Is a caddie compulsory?

In practice, yes — caddies are assigned at Vietnamese courses and the caddie fee is part of the round.

What happens if it rains?

Tropical rain usually passes within an hour. Courses may switch to cart-path-only or suspend play for lightning. Rain-check policy differs by course; we set that out in writing before you pay.
